Oct 03, 2014· The 4g63 oil pan is NOT designed to be sealed with a gasket! That is why there is a slight indent on the sealing surface of the pan for the liquid sealant. That type of gasket would be used for an oil pan with a flat sealing surface. It would have also come on the OEM pan if it were designed that way. You will continue to leak with that gasket.

They advised to replace the oil pan gasket, clean the area, then drive the car a few thousand miles to see if the main seal is also leaking. Seems logical enough.

I pulled the engine, oil pan, rear cover, replaced rear main seal, and added a ton of RTV across the whole rear of the pan and corners. Put all back together and torqued per the service manual procedure, still leaks.

As for a fix, I personally would pull the motor replace the main seal and the oil pan gasket. clean the block really well. Remove the engine cross member and clean that as well.

The question / problem that I have is that the end seal at the BACK of the gasket is much thicker than the seal that came out.
