The Colliery took on a new look in 1956, when the Nos.1 and 2 steam winder and headgear were demolished together with the boiler plant and chimney, to be replaced by a 270 hp electric winder with new tandem steel headgear. During 1983, coal preparations ceased at Babbington and coal was taken by road to be washed at Hucknall No 2 Colliery.

George Herbert Fowler was born in 1877 the only son of George Fowler, manager of Babbington Colliery and Mary Judith Fowler née Shaw of Basford Hall, Nottingham. His father was born in 1841 at Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, his mother in 1849 at Tamworth Staffordshire. Married in 1868 at Tamwoth, they had four children three surviving infancy.

This was the miner's ID tag to allow him to draw his pay from the pay office each week. These were made of brass with the colliery name displayed on them. Each colliery had its own shape & design - Bestwood Colliery and Babbington Colliery both belonged to the BA Collieries Company and both had octagonal checks. Gedling colliery used a round check.

The layout is basically a double track circuit with a branch line going off from Babbington to Old Basford. There is no set period so I run what I like when I like.
